We started the day with a short run with the team, which was incredibly hot! We trained through the winter, so we're used to running in fleece-lined tights, not shorts and singlets. It was really fun, though - an easy run/tour of downtown. On the way, we were stopped and interviewed by a local news channel - we felt like celebrities. It was a nice way to start the day and work off the jitters. After a shower and some breakfast, we walked over to the Country Music Hall of Fame. We loved it! We're not really huge country fans, but this is an awesome place. The museum is gorgeous, and it's very interactive and fun. We saw Elvis' gold limo and gold piano, some vintage instruments, some very tacky costumes, and a zillion gold records. It was tons of fun! After that, we headed to the Team in Training pasta party, where we carbo loaded and received race tips and inspiration from John Bingham (better known as The Penguin - as he refers to himself, the most famous runner to have never won a race), a VP of Elite Racing and former olympic coach, a national chair of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and a mother whose child is currently battling cancer. It was very emotional, but also incredibly inspirational. During the honored teammate slideshow, which featured the honored teammates from across the country, we were moved by the inclusion of Linda, my personal honored teammate, in whose memory I ran on Saturday. (NOTE: I just noticed that the person putting the slideshow got Linda's name wrong. I know it was submitted correctly by the DC staff at the LLS, but somehow her surname was typed in error. My apologies to her family and friends for that.) After the pasta party, we walked around downtown a bit and then got to bed early in preparation for the 4:00 am wake-up call for the race!
