Happy Canada Day and Fourth of July

We're having a nice, quiet long weekend. Lauren celebrated Canada Day in the little Canada Day outfit her Grandma brought her (she can have poutine another year), and we had a fun Fourth of July with our excellent neighbors. Lauren didn't mind the fireworks one bit - though the booms made her open her eyes a few times, she mostly slept right through them, which is no small feat in DC, especially when you live this close to the action. We've been going for long walks, Lauren's been napping in her crib (hurray!), and we brought out the exersaucer, which she loves for 2 minutes at a time...and then she topples over and gets fed up. We're also having fairly successful tummy time by reading her favorite book - "My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs" (thanks to whoever bought that for us!). Current likes: being outside in the Baby Bjorn, the monkey on her activity gym, and the talking, squacking, and cooing. Dislikes: her carseat and a certain purple elephant toy (it's the first thing we've seen her be afraid of).

Avery, Ewan, Uncle Kevin, and Auntie Erin!

We dropped Grandma off at the airport, ran a few errands, had a big nap, and then Lauren's aunt, uncle, and cousins from the Soo arrived! Avery and Ewan's favorite parts of the visit seemed to be the mail slot on our front door and the escalator - and, of course, baby Lauren! They were wonderful with her - very considerate and gentle. It was a great visit - see more (and better) pics at Kevin's blog. We all went to the National Mall together on Sunday - it was Lauren's first time on the Metro! She demonstrated just what Mummy thinks of the Metro system by loudly pooping her pants on a very quiet train on the way home - hilarious! Lauren and her Auntie Erin, Uncle Kevin, and cousins also went to the zoo and rode a double decker bus around the monuments together. It was a very busy but awesome visit! Thanks for all your help! Come back soon!

Grandma Time!

Lauren's Grandma came to stay with us for a week, and they had a fabulous time together! Despite the DC heat, Grandma took Lauren out exploring the city twice each day, and they had many adventures together. They also played many fun games together, including Lauren's favorite "I've got your tongue!" game, and Grandma taught Lauren to kick and splash in the bathtub. It was a fantastic week, and we all hope Grandma comes back soon!
